Indonesian Tea and Chocolate Pairing

Joined by the owner of the wonderful Harendong Estate, Melanie Halim, we will taste the estate’s teas alongside different chocolates.

Saturday 18th May 9.30am BST
Zoom Webinar
Tickets from £20

Delivery of 4 teas from the Harendong Estate and chocolates to taste alongside them is included in the ticket price.

If you were with us last October when we tasted a selection of teas from Harendong Tea Estate in Indonesia, you will already know what wonderful flavour profiles those teas have and how the unusual processing gives them a unique character that is rarely found in teas from Indonesia.

This next event will partner those excellent teas with four different kinds of chocolate – plain, milk, milk with crunchy nougat, and white.

The teas we’ll taste are:

  1. Harendong Organic White tea
  2. Harendong Organic Green tea, balled in the style of a Taiwanese Oolong
  3. Harendong Organic medium Oolong, balled style
  4. Harendong Organic Black tea, open leaf style
About the Harendong Estate

Harendong Tea Estate, founded in 2006, is a certified organic tea farm nestled in the mountainous area next to Mount Halimun Salak National Park, Lebak, Banten, in the western part of Java Island, Indonesia. It sits at an altitude of between 800 to 1,000 meters (2,625 to 3,280 ft), and covers 350 acres. The estate is often covered in the morning and evening with mist which brings the moisture and humid air that the tea plants love. The cool weather, the high annual rainfall of 4,000 to 6,000 mm, and the mineral-rich soil create the perfect conditions for producing high quality tea.

The owner of the estate, Melanie Halim, and the factory’s Head of Operations, Gideon Buntoro, work together to achieve their goal of making teas of exceptional quality. And, as well as caring for the tea plants and the teas, they also follow their beliefs that tea “is a conduit for relationships, connecting people, nature and the community. We pledge our relentless commitment in the pursuit of crafting tea of exceptional quality that fully express the characteristics of the terroir; just as nature intended.”
