This is a very unusual and heart-warming story so do join us to find out more.

India’s Kangra tea region is situated due north of Delhi in the state of Himachal Pradesh and is the smallest of the country’s tea producing areas. It is also home to the Dalai Lama.

The area was developed with Chinese tea plant varietals in the 1850s, and by 1895, 3,642 hectares had been established. The black teas from the region became very popular within India and also in Europe and Central Asia, while large quantities of its green teas were once sold to Afghanistan. Then in 1906, a massive earthquake devastated the area, killed 20,000 people and demolished 100,000 buildings. The region only began to recover in the 1960s and today, with a growing interest in its teas and help from the state government and from people like Ashlea, Kangra is now being recognised as an important tea region. In 2023, one of Mansimble’s teas won a Highly Commended award at The Leafies, the UK Tea Academy’s loose leaf tea competition.

During our event, Ashlea will tell the story of how she and her friend Vanessa became involved with Mansimble Tea Estate, how they funded the work to help the team at Mansimble get through Covid, how they’ve been marketing the teas in order to find new customers in the UK, and what the future holds for Mansimble Tea.
