Tea Guide Award

Tea Guide marks the beginning of your structured tea education. You will explore what makes green, white, black and oolong teas distinct – not just in theory, but in taste. This qualification will develop your confidence in brewing and help you build a clear, compelling tea vocabulary.

Tea Guide Outline

The UKTA Tea Guide Award is your first professional step into the tea world. It is ideal for anyone working in hospitality, education, or tea retail – and for enthusiasts ready to move beyond the basics.

You will explore the four major styles of tea: green, white, black and oolong and by joining the Live Tasting Tutorial with our UKTA Tea Specialist, you will deepen your sensory skills. You will understand how production methods, terroir and cultivar shape the identity and flavour of each tea and develop a confident vocabulary for evaluating all teas – not just the seven you will enjoy with this unit.

The Tea Guide Award includes:

• One unit: Brewing Classic Teas –  Green, White, Black and Oolong
• One Live Tasting Tutorial
• Downloadable Tea Journal
• Seven Speciality teas

The Tea Guide Award Bundle includes:

• Tea Guide Award (as above)
• Tea Essentials Award

If you have not yet completed Tea Essentials, it will be included automatically as part of your bundle. You need to complete Tea Essentials before the Tea Guide Award.

Total Learning Time
Tea Guide Award will take around 16 hours to complete (not including Tea Essentials Award). As well as the Live Tasting Tutorial and the self-study content, you can follow the suggested exercises on brewing practice and make time for notes in your Tea Journal on evaluating the speciality teas.

Assessment
The assessment is a set of 25 x multiple-choice questions to test your understanding of the Tea Guide unit – Brewing Classic Teas.

Achievement
When you complete and pass the  MCQ assessment, you will receive the UKTA Tea Guide Award Certificate and an OCN London Digital Badge.

Progression
Successful completion of Tea Guide Award unlocks access to the Tea Sommelier Award and World Tea Diploma – and the individual units in each. The  Tea Guide Award is a required foundation for all further UKTA qualifications at Level 3 and above so it must be completed before progressing to the Tea Sommelier Award or World Tea Diploma.
