Tasting of Japanese Hojicha Teas with Asako Steward

A morning tasting 3 Japanese Hojicha teas with Asako Stweard, UKTA Tutor and Japan Tea Ambassador to the UK.

Saturday 2nd December 10am – 12pm
Zoom Webinar
Tickets from £30

Included in the ticket price is delivery of 3 Hojicha teas (from Suzuki Seicha – whose teas just won Highly Commended awards at this year’s Leafies!) to taste together during the event.

Hojicha is widely enjoyed all over Japan as an everyday tea. People drink it with sweets, after eating a meal, or after playing sports to rehydrate. Many people even give Hojicha to babies in their bottle!

Although Hojicha is often regarded as a common drink, Mr. Suzuki of Suzuki seicha is taking Hojicha seriously. His tea is grown organically and first flush leaves are used. In this class, UKTA Tutor and Japanese tea expert Asako Steward will introduce you to three of Mr. Suzuki’s Hojichas: light, medium, and deep roast. Suzuki Seicha’s white and green teas just won Highly commended awards at this year’s Leafies International Tea Awards!

Hojicha is a green tea but it is brown in appearance because it is roasted after processing. Just like coffee, the roasting time and temperature determine the taste of Hojicha.

After tasting these expertly made Hojichas, you will see that this inexpensive everyday tea is so much more interesting than you think!

This event is for everyone: whether you know nothing about Japanese tea, and want to start learning, or even if you know your stuff and just want the opportunity to taste some high-quality Hojichas direct from Japan, selected by an expert.
