'The best decision I’ve made was to do this course, So much information. Just love Jane. I can’t wait for more.'
'I am thoroughly enjoying the Tea Champion Theory webinars with Jane. There is only so much that you can learn in books. Jane explains everything perfectly and backs it up with her own experiences. I would highly recommend this course to anyone with interest in tea whether its personal or for business training.'
Live Webinars: Tea Champion Theory of Tea
How it works
The 8 webinar modules cover all the theory elements of our Tea Champion course. When life returns to normal we will be teaching practical single-day courses in our classrooms in London and around the world. The Sensory and Practical Day course will cover tasting, brewing, blending, etc. Anyone wishing to obtain a Tea Champion (Level 1) certificate needs to take all 8 webinars plus, later, the Sensory and Practical Day course. We recommend taking all 8 but, should you wish to dip into some but not all of the webinars, we will be delighted to welcome you to individual webinars.
So, our students now have 2 choices: you can either study the theory of tea by taking our Tea Champion Theory: Online Self-Study course or you can join our tutors for these live webinars. Some of you may prefer a mix of the two.
Whichever way you choose to study, you can join the Sensory and Practical Day course later in the year before then sitting the Tea Champion test and qualifying as a UK Tea Academy Tea Champion.
Who are they for?
Since we cannot teach our Tea Champion course in our classrooms around the world at the moment, we have turned the material that covers the theory part of the course into 8 live webinars. These each last approximately an hour and, as well as listening to the tutor, those taking part will be able to ask questions and discuss together the various relevant aspects of tea. As with our classroom-based Tea Champion course, these webinars are aimed at anyone interested in tea, anyone working or wishing to work in the F&B and hospitality sectors, and anyone who simply loves tea and would like to know more.
The webinars are ideal for anyone who wishes to gain a deeper understanding of tea history, culture, the 6 different categories of tea, manufacturing methods, and current trends. The live webinars are available to book as single modules but we do encourage you to follow the course right through from Module 1 to Module 8.
What do they cover?
The course delivers the theory of the Level 1 Tea Champion course in 8 modules as follows:
Module 1: a brief history of tea from China 5000 years ago to current trends; the tea plant
Module 2: seasonality, plucking, why all teas are different, processing terminology
Module 3: what makes a good cup of tea, loose tea or teabags, all about brewing, tea's ingredients and their health benefits (caffeine, L-Theanine, polyphenols, etc)
Module 4: black tea manufacture, five famous black teas
Module 5: black tea grading terms, green tea manufacture
Module 6: white teas, oolong teas
Module 7: yellow teas, puerh teaModule 8: flavoured teas, what's available in the market, blending, certification bodies
Successful completion of the 8 Tea Champion webinars will earn the student credit towards a Level 1 Tea Champion course. To achieve the full Tea Champion certification students should take our Sensory and Practical ‘upgrade’ course. This is available now online and soon at our licensed training centres in Italy, Germany, Spain, as soon as we are able to return to classroom-based teaching (and other UKTA licensed training centres worldwide).
Only those who have completed either these 8 webinars course or our Tea Champion Theory Online Self Study Course will be eligible to book a place on the Sensory and Practical Course.
Completion of the Tea Champion course is a mandatory entry requirement for UKTA’s Level 2 Tea Sommelier course.
