CHINESE AND JAPANESE TEA RITUALS

Join our tutors Juyan and Asako to experience and participate in Chinese and Japanese tea rituals, the roots of which go back hundreds, if not thousands of years. We will learn about Chinese Gong Fu Cha (tea ceremony), and Japanese Tea Ceremony including Chado (the way of tea) and Senchado (the way of Sencha). We will taste teas brewed in the traditional way and also investigate the traditional tea wares used to make them, including how to brew green, black, oolong and puerh teas in the Chinese Gong Fu style, and learning to whisk our own Matcha.

PART 2 - JAPANESE TEA RITUALS, PRESENTED BY ASAKO STEWARD

You will learn about a changing pattern of interior for traditional tearooms and tea wares, all the utensils used and how and why they are chosen for each occasions. This course is not to learn how to perform Japanese tea rituals but to learn and understand it’s philosophy and how they have developed historically. We will also show you more practical way to understand what it is all about and also suggest how to enjoy Japanese tea in proper way, even if it is not in ceremonial form.
