Maren Fichter is a tea educator and matcha barista, bringing a wealth of first-hand experience working with tea across its full lifecycle, from farming and processing to retail and tastings. She has supported several tea businesses across operations, marketing, and front of house roles, and in 2023 spent three months as a tea farmer in Wazuka, Kyoto, Japan, hosting tea tours and processing tea.
Currently completing a tea instructor certification with Being Tea, and with a varied background across design, linguistics, and education, Maren approaches tea with a focus on sensory experience, integration of theoretical and practical learning, and deep appreciation for tea traditions and cultures.
Maren is based in Bath, UK, and holds an MPhil in Linguistics from Oxford. In addition to being the Subject Expert for the UKTA’s Matcha Power, she hosts tea tastings and educational events online at Leaf & Buds Tea, and whisks hundreds of matchas a day at Matcha Thing.
